Monday Beginners / Improvers Pilates Class
- Woodland Community Centre, Fair Oak (Directions)
- Mondays @ 09:15am
Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates who wanted to create a rehabilitation program for prisoners of war who needed a safe and effective way to regain the fitness and mobility they lost during their captivity.
Joseph Pilates believed that our physical and mental health are intertwined. He designed his exercise program around principles that support this philosophy, including concentration, precision, control, breathing, and flowing movements. These principles of Pilates combine together to work your whole body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, and effective movement.
Not only is Pilates a proven way to strengthen the core muscles it also focuses on utilising the entire body to improve overall strength and tone, flexibility and mobility, bone strength and even posture. Whilst many of the movements might be small and performed slowly, they are done to target specific muscle groups, many of which you may never work in your usual fitness routine.
As well as being a great all round workout physically, Pilates is also great for promoting mindfulness, relaxation and boosting overall wellbeing. Pilates focuses on slowing down, breathing fully through movement, and allows you the time to be fully present in the moment in order to get to know the inner workings of your body and mind.
